Night in Dongdaemun: Penis fish? Sea pineapple? Netting up the shop means it's closed??? WHAT???
We always wonder if Koreans really look like the one we saw in Korean drama. To answer our curiosity, we decided to visit Seoul. :D
Hello Seoul!!!
Extremely hygienic toilet seat was the first thing I was attracted to
With the help of a mandarin speaking Korean lady we met in the airport, we managed to get to Dongdaemun and settled in a cosy guesthouse for our first night stay. It was just KRW 10,000 (~RM 32) per night, equipped with a superior bed with electric hot blanket, refrigerator, tv, kettle, clean towels, new toothbrush and comb sets and a very big private bathroom with hot shower. The guesthouse owner was an old lady who speaks only Korean. We were having fun communicating with her in sign language, no problem though. ;) Settled with our backpacks, we headed out to explore the town.
Night in Dongdaemun
It was 10 pm+ when we were out, many shops were closed. Shops that were still on business were cafes, restaurants and pubs. There were aquariums filled with living seafood for customers to order.
"Breathing the morning in Dongdaemun, visit the havenly Cheonggyecheon, meet the scallop as big as your face in Gwangjang! Live in Joseon Dynasty when you step into Changdeokgung! And getting to know Koreans when you join the Anguk Parade!"
Chinese penis fish (Urechis unicinctus) offered by a food stall
Sea pineapple (Halocynthia roretzi)
We settled our first meal in Seoul in a little shop along the walkway. Yummy ramen served together with pickled. (KRW 2,500 = ~ RM 8). The flat chopsticks were a torture to my fingers, ouch!!!
Delicious ramen, we returned for a second visit before we left for Malaysia
It was raining after dinner, we continued to walk around the area with umbrellas the ajumma ("aunt" in Korean) handed us before we left the guesthouse.
Dongdemun, the Great East Gate
Pyounghwa Clothing Market, you can get whatever in trend here
"Breathing the morning in Dongdaemun, visit the havenly Cheonggyecheon, meet the scallop as big as your face in Gwangjang! Live in Joseon Dynasty when you step into Changdeokgung! And getting to know Koreans when you join the Anguk Parade!"
Food stall by the road side was covered up to keep the dust away
Underground walkway was occupied with shops
Another shopping mall with dazzling lighting
Shopping Mall alongside Cheonggyecheon stream
Walkway along Cheonggyecheon
Shops in underground walkway were closed, notice the net!
Bought tteokbokki for supper! Ajumma was shy to take photo. Hehe.
A seafood restaurant on our way back to guesthouse
An aquarium full of flatfish!!!
There goes our first night in Seoul. Good night. :)
